Top Reasons to Buy a Fort Knox Gun Safe

Fort Knox Gun Safes
There are several reasons to buy a Fort Knox gun safe. It is important to understand NOT all safes are for everyone. There are hundreds if not thousands of safes available for a reason. It's important that customers find out what is most important to them and then discover the manufacturer that offers that best. While Fort Knox gun safes have a long list of reasons, the top reason to buy a Fort Knox gun safe is by far the available options and customization.

Customize your Security

Keep in mind that all Fort Knox safes are made in Orem, Utah. These gun safes are NOT imported from another country. Fort Knox is the only company that makes gun safes with a long list of fully customizable options. Every other manufacturer have a standard build for each of their model safes. In some cases the customer is given the option of color, accessories, and sometimes interior arrangement while Fort Knox makes it easy and painless for customers to specify EXACTLY how they want their safe built. As mentioned earlier there are several reasons to buy a Fort Knox gun safe. If this is not something a customer is not interested in they can simply choose from one of the 7 different models and simply pick a color and interior arrangement as with other manufacturers.

Consider The OPTIONS!
The options available from Fort Knox start with the typical kinds

First Option: Interior arrangement. The Fort Knox difference here is in the quality and variety! While most other gun safes have colors and interior options Fort Knox has near 40 different interior arrangement options! There are 6 different safe sizes to choose from and almost all sizes have 8 different arrangements. That much more than the typical 2 or three different options.

Second Option: Exterior color/finish. Depending on the model of safe there are 14 different colors available. With this seems fairly typical Fort Knox raises the bar in quality. Each of the glossy paint options are "Baked on Acrylic Urethane Metallic"

Third Option: Lock. Another option that most would think is pretty straight forward, but AGAIN Fort Knox takes this option to the next level. There are 4 different options here. Most manufacturers have a Mechanical, Electronic and Biometric lock option. Fort Knox has recognized that many customers go back and forth between electronic and mechanical.

Benefits of Electronic Locks:

  • Change your code easily and at any time
  • Faster to open the safe
Benefits of Mechanical Locks:

  • Reliable
  • Never have to replace batteries

Fort Knox noticed this dilema customers are faced with and decided to fix it with The Redundant Lock System. This is a system that has both options in one!! Most users choose to use the electronic lock for daily use and the mechanical lock as a failsafe backup however either can be used at any time.

Fourth Option: Door Swing. Most if not all other gun safe manufacturers have the safe door hinges on the right, but with Fort Knox a customer can change that and have the hinges placed on the left side. This is a small but significant option if a customer is limited on safe placement.

Fifth Option: Safe Construction/Security. This is where Fort Knox really shines! Customers that had research gun safes and already have an idea what they are looking for usually get stumped when they discover these options. This is listed as 'Safe Construction/Security' because you can literally change the degree of security of your safe! While other manufacturers give the option of several different series or models of gun safes Fort Knox uses the 'series' as a guideline for customers to mix and match the steel. This can get a little complicated so I am going to keep it simple. Each series has it's own specification of steel thickness from the entry level Maverick to the  top end Legend.

  • Deluxe Package: If a customer is stuck between two different series they can add the Deluxe Package which will add thicker steel for the outside body of the safe and the door of the safe as well.
  • Inner Steel Liner: For added security and maximum protection Fort Knox offers an option of additional 10 gauge steel plates (up to 4) to line the inner walls of the safe.
  • Safe Body Upgrades: Similar to the Deluxe package a customer can choose to increase the steel thickness of the safe body. If the series safe has a 10 gauge body the customer can choose this upgrade to increase the steel to 3/16" or 1/4" steel.
  • Stainless Steel: My favorite! This is where Fort Knox has yet again set the standard. The stainless steel package adds 10 gauge stainless steel to the outside body and door of the safe for optimum protection against a torch attach. This option is standard on the top of the line Legend series.
With all of the customization options it hard to imagine Fort Knox not fulfilling what's most important to most gun safe shoppers. There are more reasons to buy a Fort Knox gun safe beyond what was covered in this article but this covers the highlights. When shopping for a gun safe a customer should consider what is most important to them first. I hope this helps many decide. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at The Safe Place.

Gun Safes for Guns Must be Secured or Heavy to Avoid Being Carried Off

The police report from Boston reads: Southerly Road, 900 block. Between 3 p.m. Oct. 14 and 5 p.m. Oct. 16. Someone used keys to enter an apartment and stole one safe containing a Baltimore City police service weapon and two loaded magazines and another safe containing ammunition, body armor and keys to the apartment and cars, police said.

Well, this is a head's up that firearms of any sort should not be kept in a container that isn't secured or too heavy for someone to cart off.

Gun safes aren't just to keep people from firing weapons, it's to keep them from getting stolen.

Here's a gun safe that won't get carted off. It's the

Browning Tactical Series Mark II AR26F Gun Safe

Someone's going to have to come pretty darned prepared to cart this gun safe out of your house or office. It weighs 725 pounds --and you're going to bolt it down too. It has a 60 Minutes fire rating at 1200ºF and all sorts of other interesting and useful features.

To get the low-down (and the lowest possible price) on any gun safe, call us at www.TheSafePlace.com.  We ship all over the world. 775-358-7233.

The Top 3 Best Gun Safes

Many people that want to buy a gun safe look for the very best gun safe first. Below is a list of the top 3 best gun safes available at TheSafePlace.comIt is important to note this list is for gun safes that measure at or near 60” tall, measure at or near 30” wide. This is the most common size. Generally, the larger the gun safe, the more competition in quality. Also keep in mind there is only one model from each company allowed in the comparison. We did not think it would be fair to include 2 safes from the same company.  Lastly all the gun safes analyzed were those available at TheSafePlace.com.

Similarities among all three

While there is quite a bit of difference between these gun safes, they do have some things in common. All three safes have 4 way bolt work. All three safes are available in a variety of glossy colors. They all come standard with the same S&G mechanical lock. They all have a fire rating of 90 minutes. All of these gun safes have a look and feel of quality that can be instantly acknowledged after opening the door. Another similarity is their weight. All three gun safes are around 1,000 lbs. When shopping for a safe the first question should be: “how much does it weigh?” The heavier it is, the stronger it is.

The Fort Knox Titan 6031 comes standard with an S&G group II mechanical locking dial and is fire rated for 90 minutes at 1680°F. The S & G includes a key lock and a spy proof dial.  The Titan has 18 bolts each measuring 1½-inch in diameter. It weighs the heaviest out of the three at 1218 lbs. The Titan safes are a uni-body construction measuring a total of 1¾ inch thick. That includes the 3/16-inch outer body and the included 10 gauge reinforced steel liner. The door has a 3/8-inch thick steel plate and a 10 gauge outer steel liner. This gun safe has a total door thickness of 1¾ inch. The body is constructed of a heavy 3/16" steel outer body with a 10 gauge inner steel liner.
The Fort Knox Titan 6031 has a look and feel that clearly demonstrates quality.  One key feature that sets the Fort Knox gun safe apart from others is the ability to customize the construction of the safe. For an added cost Fort Knox can include  extra steel liners for the inner body, thicker steel for the outside of the safe, and even a thicker safe door.  Some other key features include a unique rack and pinion gear drive mechanism, corner bolts, and a dual fire seal. Keep in mind there are more Fort Knox safes available on our website.
Manufacturer: Fort Knox

Retail Price Range: $4500-$4200

The Superior Master 25 gun safe (M-25) comes standard with an S&G group II dial lock. It is fire rated for 90 min at 1500°F. The dial has is spy spoof with a key. The M-25 has 18 bolts like the Titan, but each bolt is 1¼" in diameter.  This is the lightest of the three gun safes: 850 lbs. The safe body is a thick 11 gauge body with three layers of fire protection. The safe door has a 3/8” steel plate. While the Master 25 doesn’t have an array of construction options like the Titan, it does have an impressive patented Double-step door construction. Keep in mind there are more Superior Safes available as well.
Manufacturer: Superior Safe Co.

Retail Price Range: $2200-$2000

The American Security BF6030 is by far the most popular of the three featured gun safes. The BF6030 has a 90 minute fire rating at 1275°F. Unlike any other gun safe manufacturer American Security has a patented insulation poured between the steel called DryLight.  DryLight is only found in the high-end AMSEC gun safes. The BF6030 has a thick ½” steel plate on the outside of the door. While this safe only has 11 bolts, it is still sufficient and impressive. Keep in mind there are more AMSEC safes with similar options.
Manufacturer: AMSEC

Retail Price Range: $3000-$2500
