SIX PEOPLE ESCAPE SAN JOSE HOUSE FIRE
SAN JOSE -- A three-alarm fire gutted a San Jose home in the early Saturday morning, displacing three residents and their three guests. Fire officials say the Victorian-style house in the 1400 block Newport Avenue was completely destroyed, but neighboring homes were not damaged.
Flames broke out shortly after midnight and were controlled several hours later.
Investigators say the fire appears to have started in a rear shed before spreading to the home's second floor and roof. The occupants were able to evacuate on their own, and there were no injuries. While no damage estimate has been released, fire officials say the house is uninhabitable. The Red Cross was able to give assistance to those who were in the house and they have found temporary accommodations.
